A group of folk musicians in St. Petersburg, Russia, spontaneously formed Otava Yo in 2005. They wanted to create new interpretations of Russian folk music, open to everyone with open ears (and legs), and to revive neglected tunes from by gone times. After their completely fab showcase at Womex in 2014, Otava Yo played Sound of Xity and Strawberry Festival in Shangai, also played in Womad on 2016 and have played many other festivals and concerts in Europe, North America, India and China. Band also toured Japan in June-July 2018. Their video Sumetckaya has been viewed more than 23 million times far now and was #1 in the World Music video charts. This year Otava Yo just won the best music video award with “Oh Dusya, oh, Marusya” at the London International Film Festival. The video also won first prize for the best music video at the NYC Indie Film Awards. Band will release their new album on 2019.
