Jung Jaeil

Jung Jaeil notably composed the score of the award-winning films Okja and Parasite, both directed by Bong Joon-ho, as well as the score of the Netflix series Squid Game, the latter earning an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music. Such ubiquity is unusual in a musician who counts ancient Korean court music, Balkan brass and thrash metal among his influences. He has deployed all these styles and more in compositions for stage, screen and the pop charts. Composing for over two decades, Jung has earned a reputation as one of the most innovative and accomplished screen composers of his generation.
His fascination with traditional Korean music dates back to when he was 16, when he was working in a band called Puri with Korean composer Won Il, who specialised in this genre. Jung feels that human history and drama over thousands of years flow in traditional music, which is incomparable to a piece of music created by any single composer.
In 2022 Jung Jaeil signed to Decca Records. The first project in this new partnership was the international release of his choral-electronic album ‘Psalms’ in partnership with Universal Music Korea and continued with ‘Listen’ and newest ‘A Prayer’ albums.
