The three musicians behind the breath instruments which make up Hoca Nasreddin strive for music which is unfettered by formal rules yet rich in musicality, a music which is cutting-edge while being rooted in tradition, one which gives its main focus to timbre, texture, and shifting qualities of sound. Even though the free-improvising Hoca Nasreddin is perhaps the most avant- garde, experimental and musically wild group in Turkey, the band-members also share a love of Anatolian traditional music, which they see as their prime source of inspiration, as well as free music, free jazz and contemporary classical music.
