Haratago

A group drawing on the power of «basa ahaide» modality — the vocal tradition of the Basque mountains.

Haratago (meaning “beyond” in Basque) reveals all of the strength of the Basa Ahaide, the name given to the vocal expression of mountain shepherds in the Basque Country that is traditionally sung solo and a capella. These orally-transmitted ancestral songs convey the shepherd’s emotions with regard to nature and Julen Achiary life in the high mountain summer pastures. And so, the voice, violone, clarinet, duduk, amboesa (traditional oboe from Quercy), hurdy-gurdy and banjo intricately criss-cross and intertwine, each in turn becoming the Eagle or its elusive shadow, on earth, in bright or dark.

Haratago already performed in the major events like Womex2023 (A Coruña, ES) or Babel Music XP (FR) and will appear in Théâtre de la Ville (Paris, FR) and Ethnoport (Poznan, PL).
